PTO Meeting Minutes Tuesday, May 20, 2014 Attendees: Shan Evuich, Stacia Hoots, Shawn Keunnen, Amy Macuga, Kerrie McNeely, Janelle Nickell, Julie Nirula, Maggie Sheppard, Sarah Smyth, Ellen Su, Darcy Tsandes School Update – Shawn Kuennen · Success Maker o Haven’t heard back from PCEF on if can use 2013/14 funding for 2014/15 school year · Beat The Calculator o Great success, kids loved it o Challenging enough, especially in upper grades o Will fine tune next year. Need to figure out what to give as incentive. · Projectors – currently 8 years old o Capital outlay request not approved. o Will see if comes out of technology budget. o We are planning to update the projectors one year at a time. Waiting on final cost. · Additional Outlets in Teacher’s Lounge o Hope to put in over the summer. · Front Entry Overhaul o Agree need to do something, especially with amount of wind o Glass enclosed case? · Renewable Energy o Julie Booth agreed to lead this initiative o Have not received an update on district solar initiative o Need to contact UT Power to determine if Wind is feasible. o Need to decide if want Wind to generate power (will need grants) or use for educational purposes. · Back-To-School Night o Tuesday, August 29th, 5:00 – 7:00 o 5:00 – 5:30 Grades 3-5 in classroom; 5:30 – 6:00 Orientation Presentation; 6:00 – 6:30 Grades 1-2 in classroom; 6:30 – 7:00 Orientation Presentation o Kindergarten would like to keep their orientation separately. o PTO will give info to Kindergarten teachers to hand out at their orientation (classrooms open two days prior to school starting). o Kindergarten families will be invited to School Orientation, however, their classrooms will be unavailable that evening. · Science Room / Specialist o Has asked if unused 2013/14 money can be used in 2014/15. o Will interview in August if current science specialist does not want role. · Trish Alderman, a parent from Parley’s who is moving to Jeremy, expressed concerns for non-DLI class integration… based on her experiences at Parley’s. o She spoke of specialist assignment by groups (A, B, C, D), instead of classrooms, to promote more mixing of the kids. o Another suggestion was to allow the kids to sit with other kids in their grade, as opposed to having to sit with their class. PTO Meeting Minutes Tuesday, April 22, 2014 Attendees: Shan Evuich, Stacia Hoots, Kendeyl Johansan, Shawn Keunnen, Kerrie McNeely, Janelle Nickell, Julie Nirula, Karla Olson, Maggie Sheppard, Sarah Smyth, Ellen Su, Darcy Tsandes, Joy Walden, Julie Eihausen Julie Eihausen – Running for School Board Seat (Pinebrook) If elected, will focus on the following three areas · Budget: Why is district continuing to overspend? How could district find money to cover over spend so easily? Is the money being spent where people want? · Class Size: In secondary school, used to be 23:1, now 30:1 · Communication: Improve communication with public (ex: DLI situation) School Update – Shawn Kuennen · Math Facts Challenge o Shawn presenting at District Board Meeting · Success Maker o Will use next year o Will try to get flexible licenses, to serve more students o Would like to consolidate into one program (stop ALIX / IXL?) o Working with PCEF to see if can use dedicated 13/14 funding for 14/15 school year o JRES issued check back to PTO for $14.5k ($10k Success Maker + $4.5k keyboards) · Kindergarten Round-Up, April 24, 3:30 – 4:30 o Shawn will talk about registration, class placement, health requirements, academic testing, etc. o Will hand out JRES backpacks, bandana and PTO info o Janelle will speak at meeting – explain our function, try to get new parent involvement o PTO will watch new students and younger siblings during orientation · Translations o Eliana Lambert is the Outreach Coordinator (partnership with United Way) o At JRES Monday and Tuesday o Emily Hazey can also translate · Changes to Standardized Testing o SAGE is new system, changes the way questions asked o Scores will be drop very low compared to old testing system o Scores will be based on individual student’s growth o Will take a year of data to obtain baseline o May testing scores will be available in August · Dual Language Immersion o JRES has two open positions (2nd & 3rd grade) o TSES has two openings as well o Four candidates identified, 2 US + 2 French, working on int’l relo package o Mrs. Etheridge will teach English next year · JRES Staffing Restructure o Gifted & Talented– Paula Kreuger o School Coaches – Jeff Call & Joe Demers will move to other schools o Resigned – Catherine Provines · Miscellaneous o Summer Camp available – students prioritized by reading levels and needs o Earthquake Drill will be conducted (www.shakeout.org), reunification process critical Running w/ Ed (May 17) – Sarah Smyth · Will provide coffee, tea, bagels, juice… will get numbers from PCEF · PCEF will provide cups, water jugs and ProBars · Two EMT students will be on hand to help · Need help directing runners · Spirit Kids will make a VIP parking spot sign · Will investigate getting a tent & heaters · Will see if “Girls On The Run” or boy/girl scouts want to help Teacher Appreciation Week – Karla Olson · This is a 2-3 person job · Will create Teacher Appreciation Week manual: how to organize, when to do things, contacts, supplies, etc. Open Positions · Amy & Darcy updating open positions · Treasurer – Ellen can co-chair, but can no longer do on her own · Co-President – Kerrie McNeely will co-chair · Communications · Yearbook Fun Fall Fest – Laura Tettleback & Pam Jeremy Ranch Elementary School PTO Open Items Through April 2014 School Update – Shawn Kuennen · Success Maker o Will try to get flexible licenses, to serve more students o Would like to consolidate into one program (stop ALIX / IXL?) o Working with PCEF to see if can use dedicated 13/14 funding for 14/15 school year · Math Facts Challenge o If program successful, share with other district schools. Teacher Appreciation Week – Karla Olson · - Will create Teacher Appreciation Week manual: how to organize, when to do things, contacts, supplies, etc. Room Parent Coordinator – Shan Evuich · Put together a “How To / Things To Know” packet for room parents · Will work with teachers who don’t want room parent. Communication not as good in these rooms. · Will make a big push at beginning of year to get parents signed up early. Staples Program and Cartridge Recycling – Stacia Hoots · Batteries o Stacia Hoots will provide this info to be included in the New Student Packets. · Printer Ink Cartridges o Stacia Hoots will provide this info to be included in the New Student Packets. · Reward A Classroom o Stacia to provide registration instructions to Shan. o Shan work with room parents to help teachers get registered. o After teachers have been registered, Stacia Hoots will draft PTO Blast message will go out with instructions to link to the Reward A Classroom program. o Stacia Hoots will provide this info to be included in the New Student Packets. Science Fair – Stacia Hoots · Rachael and Stacia will discuss with teachers regarding 4th grade required. · Need to start looking for team members now. Miscellaneous · JRES Parent Poll – We decided to do a similar survey in the spring · PTO Blast - General information on weekly email, sign-ups go out as needed (meals, lunchroom, etc) · Friday Lunch Help – Continue to get people to sign up · Discussed need for additional outlet in Teacher’s lounge to support when meals brought in · Back to School Night – Need to do something for DLI |
